Students meet with in a crew advisory class several times a week. These small classes (12-15 students) are designed to provide academic advisement, goal setting, and character development. Through crew, students gain the skills necessary to become informed, skilled, and couregous civic leaders. Why call it Crew? Kurt Hahn once wrote while talking about the necessity of challenging young people, "we are crew, not passengers." In this spirit, Crew at the Kurt Hahn Schools calls upon students to act as leaders in many ways big and small. On a daily basis, students hold many important roles in the running of a crew classroom. Three times a year, students hold a Student Led Conference (SLC). During their SLC, students present their academic work and progress to a panel comprised of their Crew Advisor, peers, and families. 9th Graders are challenged by a 5 day Outward Bound Adventure Week course in the fall. In the spring, Crew Olympics puts the whole school to the test as Crews face one another in events that challenge the mind, body, and spirit.
