• Notice to Families: January PBATs, Regents Exam, and Schedule Changes

  Dear KHEL’s Families and Caregivers,
  
  We are writing to share important information regarding upcoming assessments and the instructional schedule for January.
  
  PBATs for 11th and 12th Grade Students
  Performance-Based Assessment Tasks (PBATs) for 11th and 12th grade students will take place from January 21, 22 and 23, 2025. Individual PBAT schedules will be emailed to students and guardians. Please instruct students to check their emails everyday.
  
  Regents Examination
  The Regents Exam will be administered on January 20, 2025, at 9:00 AM. Doors will open at 8:00 AM, and breakfast will be available. We strongly encourage students to arrive on time, well-rested, and prepared. Any student scheduled to take the exam has been notified.
  
  January 20–23 Schedule Update
  There will be no regularly scheduled classes from January 20th-26th.
  
  11th and 12th grade students will attend school by appointment only, based on their assessment schedules.
  
  9th and 10th grade students will not have classes during this period.
  
  IMPORTANT DATES:

  • January 19: School Closed, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Day
  • January 26: Professional Development Day, No Classes
  • January 27: Spring Semester Starts

• Dental Clinic Coming Up!

  Thank you for choosing our in-school dental program!

  
  Please complete the quick permission form to allow a state-licensed dentist to provide your child with routine dental care at school, including an exam, cleaning, X-rays if needed, fluoride treatment, and sealants as appropriate. A dental report card will be sent home after the visit. Completing the form gives permission for the initial and any follow-up visits scheduled for January 29–30.

• New Cell Phone and Electronic Device Policy

  Beginning in the 2025-26 school year, in accordance with New York State law, New York City Public Schools (NYCPS) is updating its policy regarding the use of personal internet-enabled electronic devices—including cell phones—in school. This change supports the State's intent to create distraction-free schools and aims to ensure safe and focused learning environments across all NYCPS schools.

• Kurt Hahn Important Reminders

  • Students should be in their classes - at their desks - at 8:30am. Please remember attendance is important. Your child misses out on essential learning and school work if coming to school late. Usually, the classes that may be difficult, or a child is failing, is due to the fact they are late to class. 
  • School laptops and devices need to be charged and brought to school everyday.
  • Students should be logging into their gmail, google classroom, and jumpro.pe account to check & complete schoolwork. Please check in with your child and discuss school work - what is due, what was completed, how they are doing in their classes, what is difficult, what is enjoyable, are they showing up on time to their classes...
  • Students were given important forms - Blue Card, Media Consent Forms, Lunch Forms - that need to be completed and returned to the main office ASAP. Please remember to check in with your child about forms, permission slips, or any other documents that need to be completed, signed, and returned to the school. 
  • Please notify the school if your child will be absent.

• Need to see your child's grades? - Check Jumprope!

  Log into Jumprope to view your child's grades

   

  Be sure to go to https://app.jumpro.pe/login, and type in your child's KHELS Google Username as the username, and then their student ID number (OSIS) as the password to log in. Once you have access, you can see your child's grades, current classwork and homework assignments, and general student progress.

  NYC Schools Account (NYCSA) is an application that lets you see your child’s academic and biographic information on any computer, phone, or tablet. The application is translated into 9 languages other than English. Not only can you track your student’s academic process, but you can also view other academic resources to support your student and family.
