Explore Week/Fieldwork May 9 - 12

As an Expeditionary Learning school, our goal has always been to engage students in the world around them, and now we will be able to get back to the elements that make Kurt Hahn special.

During the week of May 9th, all students will be leaving the building to participate in fieldwork carefully crafted by their teachers. Explore Week has historically occurred twice a year and has been one of the major highlights of our school community. This year's opportunity will provide our young people a chance to exercise the concepts/ideas that they have been working on in class.

Permission slips are due Wednesday, May 4th. The details of each trip is noted on each permission slip. Please return to the students' crew teacher once signed.

Health Screening

All DOE employees, students, families, and visitors seeking to enter DOE buildings must complete a health screening before entering DOE facilities. This health screening must be completed on each day of arrival and results will reset at midnight of each day. Upon entering the facility you will be asked to provide the results of your screening either by showing your phone or a printout of the results.

As we return to school during this first week, families should take two important actions:

Get your children vaccinated if they are aged 12 and older

Submit consent for COVID-19 testing

Use the Health Screening Application for a daily health check in for your student

Principal’s Message

Welcome to the Kurt Hahn Expeditionary Learning School! On behalf of the school staff, we welcome you to the Kurt Hahn site which will provide some insight about what it means to be a scholar at the Kurt Hahn School. As a school community, we use the five commitments of perseverance, courage, compassion, respect, and stewardship as our guide to implementing a rigorous and culturally relevant academic plan for our young people. It is our deepest belief that all students deserve a quality education and our staff work extremely hard to provide our students with the education they deserve. In addition, we are a restorative justice school that encourages our young people to recognize their role within their community; in doing so, we believe our young people will grow up to be the change-makers in the larger world community.

As the principal of the Kurt Hahn school, I have had over 13 years of experience as an educator—as a special education teacher, a restorative justice dean, and an assistant principal. I was born and raised in Brooklyn and attended NYC public schools. These elements of my being play an integral part in my commitment to our community. It is my honor and duty to serve as the principal at the Kurt Hahn School.
